Welcome to the Bamford Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability Website
This site provides information on the Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability. This independent review, set up in 2002, looked at the law, policy and provisions which affected people with mental health needs or a learning disability in Northern Ireland. The review completed its task on 16th August 2007 with the publication of its report on legislative reform.
Professor David Bamford was the Chair of the steering committee. Following his untimely death, the Minister at the time, Shaun Woodward, agreed that the review would be recognised as the Bamford Review in recognition of Professor Bamford's contribution to the work of the committee.
Further information on the implementation of recommendations from this review can be found on the Patient and Client Council website in the Bamford Monitoring Group section.
