Pacemaker Technical Notes
Implantable Pacemaker/ICD Technical Notes (PTNs) provide safety and
technical information about implantable pacemakers and defibrillators, their associated accessories,
and the leads used to deliver therapy to the heart. PTNs are issued in situations where a potential
may exist for serious injury, death, or a deterioration in a patient’s state of health due to device
malfunction or degradation. PTNs are issued directly by the MDA to all known implanting and follow-up
centres in Northern Ireland.
Summaries of all PTNs issued since 1 January 1995 are available on the
MDA Internet Site www.medical-devices.gov.uk
Any member of the public requiring information about a particular PTN
should contact the pacemaker/defibrillator clinic responsible for their regular follow-up.
