Staff and Associate Specialists (SAS) Doctors Contract
A new contract for Staff and Associate Specialists (SAS) Doctors in the HSC has been agreed following UK wide negotiations.
The proposals introduce a new grade called "specialty doctor" and a new contract for associate specialists. From 31 March 2008 the old associate specialist grade will close to new entrants, although eligible doctors will have the opportunity to apply for personal re-grading until 31 March 2009.
The new contracts will provide an opportunity for this group of doctors to have a rewarding career with progression to the top of the grade over a number of years whilst gaining experience and extending and developing their skill base. Fundamental to the new contract is the requirement for doctors to undertake job planning and appraisal whilst developing a portfolio to record their progress in the job. Continued participation in job planning and appraisal and evidencing of their development will enable this group of doctors to progress through pay thresholds.
