AHP Strategy
The Advisory Committee for Allied Health Professionals (ACAHP) has approved
a proposal to develop a new regional Strategy for AHPs. A steering group has been established to oversee
this process, chaired by Nuala McArdle. This steering group will oversee a small working group, which
will be taking the formulation of the strategy forward. It is considered that this is a particularly
crucial time for the development of this strategy. The strategy will indicate the positions of AHPs
in a patient-centred service and link into Departmental documents and strategies.
A consultation process will be established to capture views and issues
from service users, professions, education and commissioners and staff-side representatives throughout
the HPSS. This process will be in the format of a framework of 5 regional workshops based on the theme
of modernisation for the Allied Health Professions. The contribution of the AHPs at these workshops
will feed into the overall strategy. Each workshop will address separate AHP issues. The first workshop
is planned for Friday 19th November 2004, venue The Dunadry Hotel, Belfast and a second workshop for
13th December 2004 at The Fitzwilliam Hotel, Belfast International Airport with one each month until
March 2005.

Good Practice Development for Allied Health Professions
An AHP Regional Strategy was developed through a series of 5 workshops
from November 2004 to March 2005. The writing up of the Strategy commenced in April 2005 and there was
a period of consultation during the summer of 2005. The strategy workshops had the overall theme of
AHP Modernisation. One of the key aims of the workshops and ultimately the new Strategy was to share
learning across the Allied Health Professions and the HPSS generally.
