Vision Statements

The 11 vision statements are key to signposting the future for AHPs in Northern Ireland.
Each group should consider their cluster of key statements.



Group A

1. Play a key role in the promotion of health and well being and in targeting health and social care need.

2. Be a first point of contact for patient assessment and intervention.
Questions to be considered:
  • a. Is the language used sufficiently clear?
  • b. Is there clarity around the concepts in each statement?
  • c. How can each of these directions be developed across AHP services and what key actions are needed to take these forward?



Group B

3. Lead and diagnose – request and assess diagnostic tests and prescribe using agreed protocols

4. Discharge and/or refer service users to other services in accordance with agreed protocols.

5. Develop extended clinical and practitioner roles crossing professional and organisational boundaries.

  • a. Is the language used sufficiently clear?
  • b. Is there clarity around the concepts in each statement?
  • c. How can each of these directions be developed across AHP services and what key actions are needed to take these forward?


Group C

6. Enhance collaboration with services users / carers, other professions, services and agencies.

7. Provide clinical leadership by managing and leading clinical teams and networks.

8. Develop and apply the best available research evidence and critical thinking in all areas of practice.

  • c. How can each of these directions be developed across AHP services and what key actions are needed to take these forward?


Group D

9. Engage in strategic planning and policy development at corporate level.

10. Contribute to skill development of other staff in supporting service user independence and functioning.

11. Support, develop and educate service users, carers, health and social care professionals and students.

  • c. How can each of these directions be developed across AHP services and what key actions are needed to take these forward?
