PROSTHETICS and ORTHOTICS
Prosthetists and orthotists are responsible for the assessing, measuring, design, fit,supply and review of prostheses and orthoses for patients. A prosthesis is a device that replaces a missing limb whilst an orthosis is a device fitted to an existing body segment in order to improve its function prevent further deformity or reduce pain.
Patients treated are of all ages from babies to the elderly and have a wide range of medical conditions, traumatic injuries, congenital absence and deformity. A variety of medical devices are applied from simple to the highly complex to improve the patient’s quality of life.
