Travellers
The DHSSPS was a participant in the New TSN Promoting Social Inclusion
Working Group on Travellers, which highlighted the poor health of Irish Travellers in comparison with
similar socio-economic groups in the settled community. The Department is currently funding four specific
programmes aimed at determining the health needs of Travellers and improving their access to health
and social services:
- The All Ireland Traveller Health Study in partnership with the Department of Health and Children, Dublin
- Community Development Health Network
– Traveller Health Promotion Programme
- Belfast Travellers Education and Development Group, Community Health Programme
- Southern Area Action with Travellers – Traveller Programme in the Southern Health and Social Services Board Area
