Prevalence of Malnutrition in Adults
A UK wide nutrition screening survey was carried out by the British
Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN)11
in order to establish the current prevalence of malnutrition risk on admission to different care settings.

In 2007 BAPEN12
estimated that there were 3 million people malnourished in the UK, 93% of whom are in the community.
This represents 5% of the population and this incidence increases to 14% for those over 65 years of
age.
