Enteral Nutrition

"Enteral feeding" refers to the delivery of a nutritionally complete feed containing protein, carbohydrate, fat, water, minerals and vitamins directly into the stomach, duodenum or jejunum4.
Enteral tube feeding should be considered in people who have an inadequate or unsafe oral intake and a functioning, accessible gastrointestinal tract. Enteral tube feeding should be stopped when the person is established on adequate oral intake15. Nutrition support teams are in the best place to supervise the standards of care required for people on enteral nutrition23.
