Training Opportunities at the National Cancer Institute, USA

of the Cancer Consortium, invite applications for the following summer courses at the National Cancer
Institute, Rockville, Maryland, USA:
Principles and Practice of Cancer Prevention and Control (5-29 July
2005):
provides specialised instruction on the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control.

Molecular Prevention (1-5 August 2005):
provides a strong background in the molecular biology and genetics of cancer and an overview of the basic laboratory approaches applied to cutting-edge research in cancer.

Applicants may apply for one or both courses.
Applications are invited from those working in the health and social care, academic and voluntary/not-for profit sectors, from a wide variety of disciplines (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, allied health professions, life sciences, epidemiology and any other health-related disciplines with an interest in cancer and its prevention). Up to twenty places per course are available for participants from the island of Ireland. Preference in selection will be given to those applicants with a doctorate degree and/or relevant experience in cancer prevention and control. Applicants will be required to provide a letter of support from their employer or supervisor.

Funding is available from the Health Research Board and the R&D
Office towards travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. There is no charge by National Cancer Institute
for attending these courses. Applicants residing in Northern Ireland should apply to the R&D Office.
