Infectious Diseases
Syphilis
Cases of infectious syphilis have been increasing in Northern Ireland this year and the Department has issued guidance to all doctors on diagnosis and treatment. The biggest risk factor for syphilis transmission is unprotected sexual contact of any kind including oral sex.
Anyone who thinks they have recently been at risk of acquiring syphilis or any other sexually transmitted disease should contact their GP or nearest GUM clinic.
Chlamydia
Details of the arrangements the Department are putting in place to plan for the introduction of a Chlamydia Testing Policy.
