Safety and Quality Policy
Safety and Quality is at the heart of the work of the Department of Health and is central to all areas of health and social care. The Safety, Quality and Standards Directorate takes forward the Department’s programme for improving the safety and quality of health and social care services delivered to people in Northern Ireland. This covers a wide range of initiatives including:
- Regulation of certain health and personal social services;
- Setting of regional standards and developing service frameworks for key areas of health and social care;
- Advice on the application of UK best practice guidance in Northern Ireland
- Support for effective Clinical and Social Care Governance;
- Sponsorship of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority; and
- Development and promotion of a safety framework drawing together key themes to enhance user and staff safety in the HPSS.
