Key areas of responsibility include:
- professional responsibility for and providing input to policy development with regard to:
- mental health;
- learning disability
- physical disability, including sensory impairment; and
- trauma services and brain injury services;
- alcohol and drug misuse;
- suicide prevention;
- counselling services;
- appropriate adults;
- community development; and
- schemes for the delegation of statutory functions;
- providing preliminary professional assessment of referrals to the statutory list in relation to Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA);
- providing professional input, as required into the evaluation of:
- serious adverse incidents (adult); and
- business cases;
- professional advice in relation to mental health, disability and related issues to Policy Branches, other Government Departments, Agencies, statutory, voluntary, private and community sector organisations, where appropriate; and.
- representing the OSS in a number of DHSSPS and external groupings related to the above areas of work, including the Primary Care and Community Infrastructure Working Group.
