Professional Social Work Training
Social workers work with a
wide range of people in our society who at different times in their lives need help and support. The
complexities of modern life mean the problems people face are becoming increasingly difficult. Social
workers need to have the appropriate level of education and training to help them respond effectively
to these demands.
Major changes have been made to social work education
and training here as well as in England, Scotland and Wales. 'An Honours Degree in Social Work was introduced
in Northern Ireland in September 2004 and this is the recognised qualification for social work.'
Degree was developed in partnership with people who use social care services, their carers, employers,
education interests, staff and related organisations to ensure that social workers are equipped with
the best available training to meet the demands of this complex and difficult job.
for providing information about the Degree and other issues around Social Work training and registration
falls to the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) and a wide range of information is therefore
available on the NISCC Website
