The Department had issued for public consultation proposals to establish a statutory regional Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland to replace the four non-statutory Area Child Protection Committees which have recently been replaced by a regional child protection committee.

This measure is designed to ensure greater co-operation at the highest level within Government Departments, the HPSS, local government and in the voluntary and community sectors.
