Child Protection

Information is collected annually relating to age, gender, category of abuse, referrals, investigations, duration of time on register, legal status, registrations, de-registrations and re-registrations.

At 31 March 2007 there were 1,805 children on the child protection register in Northern Ireland, of which 8% were aged under one year old.  Approximately 6 in 10 children had been on the child protection register for less than one year.

During 2006/07 there were 1,305 registrations, 215 re-registrations and 1,133 de-registrations relating to the child protection register.
