Community Information Branch is responsible for a wide range of publications relating to Personal Social Services in Northern Ireland. The two main publications are "Key Indicators of Personal Social Services for Northern Ireland" which presents as series of indicators based on population statistics, and the "Community Statistics" publication which looks at PSS activity. Key Indicators of Personal Social Services for Northern Ireland

The publication presents a comprehensive and detailed picture of social services expenditure and provision across the 4 HSS Boards and 11 HSS Trusts in Northern Ireland.  The vast majority of the indicators in this publication are derived from information provided by the 11 HSS Trusts as part of their annual statistical returns. A Pocket guide containing key PSS information and related statistics accompanies the publication of the Key indicators report. Back to Top


Community Statistics

The report presents information on activity for all Programmes of Care gathered from HSS Trusts including comparisons over the past 4 years for the main activities. Back to Top


Children Order Statistical Bulletin

The publication provides statistical information relating to children’s personal social services, including child protection, looked after children, children’s homes and children’s day care facilities. The publication is based on the children order statistical returns introduced in December 1996, which are provided by Health and Social Services Trusts to the Department. To facilitate trend analysis, data is presented over a five-year period from 2001 to 2006, and where available equivalent figures for England, Scotland and Wales have been included to put Northern Ireland figures within a wider context. OC1 - Northern Ireland Care Leavers

The OC1 publication presents information on the educational achievement of young people leaving care, as well as on their age, religion, ethnic group, disability. length of time in care, latest placement, and present economic activity. Back to Top


OC2 - Outcome Indicators for Looked After Children

The OC2 publication presents information on all children in Northern Ireland who had been looked after continuously for at least 12 months at 30th September of each year. Back to Top

This publication provides comparative information on a broad spectrum of Registration and Inspection Units work.  This publication is no longer produced due to the HPSS Regulation & Improvement Authority taking responsibility for Registration & Inspection Activity from April 2005. Back to Top

Survey of Carers of Older People in Northern Ireland

This publication provides information on the characteristics of carers and the person cared for, the amount of time spent caring, whether carers were under stress, the services provided to carers by Social Services, carers’ assessments, contact and involvement with Social Services staff, and satisfaction with the amount and quality of services provided.
AUD1 Quarterly Survey to monitor Hearing Aid Assessments and Re-Assessments in Northern Ireland
This bulletin details information on both adults and children fitted and assessed for hearing aids during the quarter, complaints received, and cost of aids issued. In addition, the return monitors complete and incomplete waits for assessment / re-assessment during the quarter and the length of time patients were waiting or had waited following referral to an audiologist.


Attitudes of Young People towards Domestic Violence
This publication summarises the findings of attitudinal questions that were included on the Young Person's Behaviour and Attitude Survey.  The survey was conducted by Central Survey Unit of the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency in post primary schools across Northern Ireland in 2007.


Domiciliary Care Providers Northern Ireland
This survey collected information on general Information about providers, prospective service users, written care plans, service users’ involvement, policies and procedures, staff, training and development and recording and reporting.
