The 24-Hour Domestic Violence Helpline is a freephone number open to anyone affected by domestic violence.
Helpline staff will provide an empathetic response to all victims of domestic violence and abuse who call the helpline. In addition, helpline staff will provide the following services:
- for female victims of domestic violence:
Explore the options available to improve safety, protection and support strategies for themselves and their children; crisis intervention for abused women and their children; direct referral to Women’s Aid Groups for refuge accommodation and floating support services.
- for male victims of domestic violence:
Signposting to relevant support agencies; signposting involves the provision of information on the range of support services available and contact details, including emergency after-hours housing provision.
- for victims of domestic violence in same-sex relationships:
Signposting to relevant support agencies, including emergency after-hours housing provision.
- for family and friends of victims of domestic violence:
Information on the range of relevant support agencies; support to explore the most effective way of presenting such information to the person they are concerned about.
- to staff from other agencies:
Provide information and advice about the services detailed above.
