Health and Social Care Research & Development (HSC R&D)

The current strategy for Health and Social Care Research and Development (HSC R&D) (PDF 1.31MB) is aligned to five strategic priorities:
  • Developing an enabling infrastructure to support R&D
  • Building research capacity for R&D
  • Funding R&D
  • Supporting innovation as a means of transferring R&D findings into practice
  • Ensuring patient and public involvement in R&D
A new Research and Development Strategy is being developed. A public consultation on this closed recently.
Delivery of the strategy is the responsibility of the Director of Research & Development.
Currently that post, the holder of which is also Chief Scientific Advisor to DHSSPS is vacant.
The Director of R&D also works alongside the R&D Division of the Public Health Agency through which the Northern Ireland funding for HSC R&DLink to an external website is managed.
