A Legislative Framework for Mental Capacity and Mental Health Legislation in Northern Ireland
The Bamford Review completed its work in 2007and set out a vision for taking forward mental health services in Northern Ireland to enhance the dignity and human rights of some of the most vulnerable people in society, those living with a mental disorder or learning disability.
This consultation document outlines the Department's proposals, in response to the Bamford Review, to intorduce a legislative framework for new mental capacity legislation and modernised mental health legislation in Northern Ireland, with an overarching set of human rights principles embedded in both.
This consultation seeks your views on the Department's plans and responses will be accepted on or before the 31 March 2009. An easy read version of the document will be available from the 7 January 2009.
